Project Birmingham | 2018 Launch Weekend

Project Birmingham | 2018 Launch Weekend

I recently got involved with Project Birmingham, an organisation which arranges events around the city to promote local artists and bring together the community. I’ve been helping out with a particular focus on marketing, and as an arts student in the city, Project Birmingham’s concept is exactly my kind of thing!

This weekend saw the 2018 launch of Project Birmingham, which took place in the form of an exhibition with live music and food and drink. The launch is in collaboration with Medicine Bakery + Gallery, a beautiful venue hidden behind a subtle yet intriguing entrance on New Street.

The event set up kicked off on Friday afternoon; a group of the PB team met at Medicine and began adding a Project Birmingham edge to the already stunning space.

This prep continued the following morning, and Project Birmingham x Medicine opened its doors to the public on Saturday afternoon! Before we knew it our exhibition was filled with artists, Medicine Bakery goers and anyone keen to find out what the excitement is about!

A vital part of Project Birmingham is our keys to the city. These old, recycled car keys were kindly given to the PB team by a Brummie locksmith, and attached to each one by hand tied string is an illustration of a building in Birmingham by local artist Darren Stevenson (@deskillustrations).
Often hung from string around the exhibition for members of the public attending our event to help themselves to; the keys to the city are a small token to use in joining the creative community we’re building.

One of the many things that makes the Project Birmingham x Medicine experience so brilliant is the irresistible food and drink that the bakery itself offers.
This, combined with live music and the work of local artists, creates a space for the community, culture and liveness that makes Birmingham’s arts scene such an exciting place to be.

The exhibition is on at Medicine till the 14th of May 2018 – we’d love to see you there so please pop in if you’re in Birmingham!
